At the beginning of your assessment, we will assign you a social worker evaluator or a ”Form F evaluator”. They will work with you and your family to create your F form together. You will establish a relationship with them at each visit and when you discuss your family life and background. They will ask you questions about your children, if you have any, previous jobs, and your relationship with your family. It`s about getting an idea of who you are as a person and how you fit into care. At every step, you need to remember that this information is given so that we can ensure that a child or teen is placed in a caring and safe home. For example, if you yourself had a traumatic childhood or were in an abusive relationship, it may mean that you have the empathy and understanding to support a young person who has experienced trauma yourself. They want to build a well-balanced picture of you and your family and find out what made you care. For this reason, they need to know all the traumatic or sensitive events in your life.
One of the reasons for this is that they want to see how well you`ve treated them and what skills and abilities you`ve learned as a result. You will also be asked to write a detailed timeline of all your important life events, e.B. Births, deaths, marriages, divorces, when you moved and when important friendships began. You will be asked to develop an eco-card of all your family and friends that will become a larger part of your care support network. The F rating form requires you to provide details of the people who can provide you with a character reference. You will also be asked for information about your current and previous employers. If you have worked with children or vulnerable people, or if you have volunteered, you will also need to provide details so that they can check for potential safety issues. Any evaluation of Form F is thorough, but it`s not designed to be intimidating or too intrusive. We need to make sure that each of our caregivers has gone through the same checks and that you can feel comfortable sharing their story with us. You will likely have been told during your investigation and course that the assessment may seem intrusive and that there is no doubt or excuse that you and the social worker will get to know each other up close! The assessment of care does not have a fixed time and you can be approved in a few months, we aim to complete it in less than 4 months, but it can take more than a year if necessary, depending on your situation. Another examination we ask you to do is to have a medical assessment of the carer with your GP.
This is called a nursing medical examination. It is only done to ensure that you do not have any medical conditions that could affect your ability to care for a child. If you and Compass Fostering have agreed after your first visit to proceed to the next step, an F evaluation form will be created for you. A Form F is what we call your more in-depth assessment of care. This is to get a real picture of who you are and why you would be perfect to take care of us. The assessment can take up to 8 months, which means you can divide up the tasks and visits of the self-employed social worker. It also gives you time to gather all the relevant information you need and prepare improvements or changes to your home for care. Typically, it takes 3-6 months for us to complete a Form F evaluation with you. It may seem like a long time, but we are proud to say that we are paving the way for the shortest evaluation times. Our dedicated local teams will guide you through the process so that it is as simple as possible for you. Schedules may vary, and it will likely be faster the more available you are for home visits. Once we have received your completed application form, we will assign an assessing social worker who will work with you and your family during the assessment process.
